How can I remove the DNS information for my custom domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a custom domain, registered via a registrar (Not wordpress.com): . I have been using it for my wordpress.com site with Nameservers set to wordpress.com and DNS entries.

I now want to move it to another hosting service. I have removed the wordpress.com nameserver entries at my registrar, but it’s still redirecting to my wordpress.com site. I cna’t find any way to remove my wordpress.com DNS “A” & “CNAME” records

    Hi there!

You’ll need to contact your registrar about making changes to your DNS settings. Usually when you update the name servers, the base A and CNAME records will be updated as well. It looks like your name servers have been updated to point at Hover.com and when I visit your domain, I’m directed to Hover instead of WordPress.com

If you just made these changes to your DNS settings, you should wait a few hours before attempting to fix anything. DNS settings can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate, although usually this happens much faster.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

    Hmm,
Yes Hover is my registrar, so a redirect to Hover would indicate that wordpress.com has released the domain and I need to complete moving it to Azure by changing things at Hover.
However when I type in my domain (prepyourdata.com) I get redirected to prepyourdata.wordpress.com.
But it has only been ~ 16 hours, so I guess I’ll wait before I do anything else.

I just checked your DNS propagation and it looks like there are several places that your new name servers haven’t made it to yet:

This should clear up on it’s own within a day or two. Let me know if it hasn’t though!

It has cleared up & thanks for that DNS propagation site, very useful. The last step may have been my browser cache.
You can mark this as resolved.
