How can i remove the sidebar
-
Hey,
i am currently making a website for my school, as a project, and am facing a slight problem.
The theme i am using for the website includes a sidebar menu, which i need to get rid off, because all it is doing is taking useful space.
I have looked everywhere but i dont know how to solve my problem.
The theme that i am using is called Notepad, and you can find it at http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/notepad/
the link to my site is http://issuniinfo.wordpress.com/i would really appreciate your help,
Andre W.

You can’t remove the sidebar and include the sidebar space in the post/page space, unless you have CSS editing experience, and you are willing to pay for an annually renewable CSS editing upgrade, and do the work yourself.

I have the CSS editing upgrade, and I was wondering: how can I remove the sidebar when viewing posts/pages (but still keep it on the main page)? If you could help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I’m sorry but you will have to wait until the Volunteers who help with CSS here are off work for the day and check in to help you. I strongly suspect that may not be achievable as CSS cannot be used to change functionality and only appearance. It’s possible that the sidebar may be defined in the template. If so we cannot edit templates. But I don’t help with CSS so I’m not in a position to say yes or no. There is a preview function here that you can use without your visitors seeing any changes > Appearance . Edit CSS

Thank you for the quick response.
Since it’s not that easy to change the functionality of a template (as you stated), would you happen to know which templates allow you to view posts/pages without the sidebar?
Thanks again.

I have tried to filter it in the themes section before, but I can’t figure out which feature specifies viewing posts/pages without the sidebar. Would anybody happen to know? I would really appreciate it. :)

Ugh… I was hoping that wasn’t true, because I noticed the same thing when I was looking all over for it when looking through the filters many months ago. They definitely missed the ball on that one.

@proglib09
Duster is a theme that does not display a sidebar on single posts and pages.

proglib09,
It’s possible to do what you want using CSS with your current theme, but it’ll require some tweaking…

Hey,
i dont want to be complaining but this IS my thread for this question, so really proglib09
you should make your own thread regarding that question. Thanks for all those answering, but i have managed to resolve the problem.
I found a little drop down menu that offered default and spaced (no- sidebar). Thanks again

@issuniinfo: It’s the same question really. And the dropdown you found is mentioned in the post I linked to:

Apologies as I am new to wordpress. I found the same option for no sidebar that issununfo mentioned (i’m using the twenty eleven theme).
This gets rid of the sidebar but just makes the blog narrower….. hence not actually gaining any area for images and text. Is there a setting somewhere for the overall width?
