How can I renew only my domain, if it was included in part of a package?

How can I renew my domain that was included in part of a packaged upgrade? I don’t want to renew the upgrade I just want to keep my domain name and take it over to a wordpress.org self hosted website.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Carlos,

Actually, you can just let the whole thing expire. You only have domain mapping on our end, but your domain is registered with Launchpad and you can point it to your self-hosted site from their end.

Let me know if you have further questions!

    Hi Eurello,

I am not sure I understand completely. When I first came on to wordpress.com I already had the registered domain, that I purchased when I had signed up with Hostgator. During which before my domain expired I had purchased the upgrade to my wordpress.com account that included the renewal of the domain I believe. I am not sure what Launchpad is and where did it come from. I know that I can point the domain to the self hosted site when I am done designing it, but what would happen when the upgrade expires, where do I renew my domain? I believe the domain expires at the same time as the upgrade and I don’t know where to renew it to keep it. Sorry If missed what you were trying to explain.

  • Hi Carlos,

WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers, so when you mapped your Hostgator domain to us, it remained registered with them. What you paid us for was only the upgrade that “attaches” that domain to your WordPress.com site, not the actual domain itself.

Launchpad is what displays as the registrar when I look up your domain in whois, but it might be the partner registrar of Hostgator. Whoever you initially bought your domain from is your registrar and they can help you point it to your new site.

    Does that make more sense?
