How can I revert to an old version of a page?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yesterday I created a new post. This morning when I went on to edit a page, I noticed my page was basically deleted and appeared as it had months ago? I am completely unaware of how this happened, and I am hoping there is some way to get my old page back. My page is “Musicians/Studios/People” and it used to be a list of references. It is now “coming soon…” which is what it said last summer. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is for my business. Thank you, Matt

    Hi there,

There have been some issues which have been reported where some of our customers have been working on a post and then have either opened up a new browser tab or clicked the back button and gone in to another post (or created an entirely new post) and published it. This has confused our post editor and has resulted in the new post over-writing the old one.

All is not lost in most cases though! If you go in to any of the posts which you’ve edited recently and scroll down, you’ll see that you have a list of revisions (if you can’t see your revisions list, you can turn it on in the Screen Options menu: http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/). In those revisions will be the text for your original post. You can retrieve your post that way. Unfortunately any comments which were made previously are lost however.

Thanks for the help, but I am not sure my situation is the same. I created a new post the day it occurred, but it didn’t change a post, it changed a page. Does it store copies of page revisions as well?

    Hi there,

It does store copies of page revisions, and I verified that there is a very different version of your page “Musicians/Studios/People” in the revisions. I wasn’t sure which version you would want, so I didn’t restore it for you, but it is definitely there!

Thank you so much. I am embarrassed to say, but I can’t find the revisions? I couldn’t find them for the posts either. I can’t find the parameter to change in “screen options”, but perhaps that’s the issues? Thanks again, Matt

    Hi there,

That’s totally understandable, it’s not where you’d think options would be. It’s in the upper right hand corner of your screen when you’re in the page edit screen. It looks like an additional tab just hanging out up there. It should be right below the extra toolbar which displays once you log in to WordPress.com.

Let me know if you have problems seeing it!
