How can I share a post without making it public?
-
I often write a post, and then want to show it to someone else before making it public.
Sometimes I want to check with another blogger before I use their quote (so I want to show them the finished post before I make it public).
Sometimes I want a friend to proofread a post I’ve finished, to make sure it flows well, and the medical descriptions understandable.
I’ve been using the password protected publish option, but this isn’t a good fit, as when I post like that, it still notifies ALL my followers that I’ve published a new post, and they come to my site to read the new post, only to find it’s password protected and they can’t access it (since I’ve only given the password to the person I’d like to proofread it).
How else can I share a post without making it public? I looked at the “submit for review” option, but that seems to be where guest posters write a post and then submit to ME (admin) for review.
Can anyone help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there, I’ve been in a similar situation and what we do is utilize the users feature. I’m not sure if you have tried that yet but you can read more about it here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Basically you can assign your friend or fellow blogger a user role such as “editor” so they can review the post before it goes live to the public. Editors will have access to all posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and links. Once you set them up they can log into your site and view the relevant posts you want them to review.
What we do is schedule the post to go live but make it one year later so the other person knows that it is ready for them to review. Another more practical way to do it is to change the status of the post to “Pending Review.” That helps indicate which post is needing review so they can quickly find it on your main Posts page. Will this help with what you are trying to accomplish?

@reflectionsofabearblog – WordPressdotcom has also provided a “Request Feedback” for just this purpose without the need to add someone as a user to your site. You can learn more about that here https://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-helper/request-feedback/
To the best of my knowledge, this feature is only available in the WP Admin “Classic” Post Editor.

@justjennifer
Oh! I don’t usually work in the Classic Post Editor, which might be why I missed that feature. Thanks – I’ll check that out. -
@dmcwong
Glad it’s not just me that’s had this problem! I’ve already looked at the all the user information – I checked all that out before I asked for help. I couldn’t seem to find a way where an admin could show unpublished posts to others. When I click “Pending Review”, it shows that to the admin (me). -
@justjennifer
Oh my goodness, just read the “Request Feedback” link you posted for me.When I got to this line,
“We recommend calling anyone who hasn’t responded and yelling at them vigorously…”I laughed so much! Was so unexpected!

Cannot find that “Request Feedback” button anywhere! I looked in both the Classic and the Beep Beep Boop editor.

Oh! I found it! It’s not available on the post I want to use it for, but for some reason I can see it with another draft. I think maybe because I’ve submitted the former post for review? Perhaps that takes away the feedback option?

Sorry! /insert sound of hand smacking forehead
If you don’t see the Writing Helper below the Post or Page Editor box in the WP Admin Classic Post/Page Editor you may need to enable it. Click on the Screen Options tab in the upper right corner of your browser window and check the box.
Let me know if you need more help with that.

@justjennifer
The Writing Helper was enabled (I did read the instructions!) but the feedback option was still not showing for that particular post. Once I removed it from “Pending Review” though, and reverted it back to a regular draft, the feedback option appeared.Have now used the feedback option with several posts, and it’s fantastic! Thanks for the tip!

Works like a champ – use it on a regular basis – I usually use the “get a link” option – then I email the link using my email and put a note in the email – that way folks see the email from me and not WordPress.COM
