How can I show more posts in a list of search results?

Hi, hoping someone can help here.

re: the “Blog pages show at most” option on Settings > Reading
As some of my posts include many images and can become quite long, I’ve limited the number of posts shown on each page to 5. It was previously set to 10, but I found then that people would often only visit the homepage.
I know I can use the “more” tag to limit the length of each post shown, but even so I found that 10 posts on a single page was too long.
Having a smaller number has also encouraged people to look at the tags and categories and click through to other pages. Since reducing the number of posts on each page I have found more people do click around the blog more, which is good.
However the setting has also affected search results.
If someone clicks on a category or tag which has a large number of posts, the search results now only show the titles of the first 5. They then have to click on “previous entries” to see the next 5 in the list. For a category with up to 50 posts, this becomes quite ridiculous – it’s time consuming and irritating.
As I continue to add new posts, this situation only becomes worse.
On a regular page (where content of each post is shown) it makes sense that the number of posts shown needs to be fairly small, but on search page results (where only the title is shown) we obviously want to see as many entries as possible. There is obviously a big difference between these two kinds of page.
Is there any way of setting these numbers independently?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Unfortunately not. It is a bit annoying, especially as in some themes, the search results show only titles, so there is a lot of room for additional search results, and even in a “regular” search that shows an excerpt from the beginning of the post, there aren’t any images, etc., so the list still looks really small. I think that a visitor to a site might think that those were the only results available if they didn’t look closely to see the “older” link.
It’s a feature I wish we had, as well, the ability to set the number of results to show on a search page. However, I think that wp considers the posts page, the search pages, and the tags/cats pages to be all “index” pages, and so they’re all subject to the same restriction on number of posts. I imagine there’s another way to set it up, but at the moment, that’s what we have.

Thanks for your reply.
Does you know whether if I added a custom upgrade this would then be possible?

It’s not possible with any upgrade other than the $600 a month VIP upgrade. Your’e right, though, it really should change.
