How can I start blogging from my 'home page'?

So I did some spring cleaning, and did a few things with this wordpress account, in the following order.
1) Deleted the old blog associated with this email address
2) Changed the username to a different one, simultaneously changing my account’s homepage to to ‘newusername . wordpress . com’.
3) Tried to start putting together my new wordpress, though, I was told the address was already taken – well obviously, as its now my homepage……but when I go to the site itself, I’m informed the blog has been taken down… okay, its tied to the account, and I DID delete it, but then I changed my username afterwards…. so… why can’t I blog on it even though its mine?
How do I access my new (old?) blog?

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Or you can do that first and then you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

It was slaofsju.wordpress.com and slaofsju was the old user name. The email in my inbox has the subject line ‘are you sure you want to delete slaofsju’ and the link its confirming the delete of was https://slaofsju.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php?page=delete-blog&h=bx1juLkjDilRFsHQ7hnN
so I’m not confused about the order I did things in….the new username and url are the one you see there: barbrarilen, and barbrarilen.wordpress.com. in theory, at least.

It looks like slaofsju.wordpress.com was renamed to barbrarilen.wordpress.com and then deleted.
Did you want the content from slaofsju.wordpress.com to show up at barbrarilen.wordpress.com, or did you want barbrarilen.wordpress.com to be a brand new blog?

The latter. I wanted barbrarilen.wordpress.com to be a brand new blog.
My intention was to wipe any traces or relations of slaofsju, be it username, .wordpress.com, content, or whatever, from the email account it was associated with. Like you say, though, it ‘looks’ like I deleted the account after renaming it. I don’t care about the content, I just want to free the URL so I can build something new using the ‘barbrarilen’ webaddress.
