How can I stop my images from expanding once they've been uploaded?

    I keep getting this problem where I upload an image as Medium (300×169), only to find it appearing in an extra-large form when viewed on another computer. I’ve just noticed this with my latest post, where 3/5 of the pictures are much bigger than I intended them to be.

    What causes this problem and how can I rectify it?
