How can I stop my location from changing after I publish posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

Why does my location change after I publish a post? I will type in Copenhagen, and all looks good. But, later, if I view my post or update it, it has changed to København V (a different part of the city, and not where I am located).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • So, just to be clear, you are adding the location manually as described here:

    Geotagging

Are you just typing “Copenhagen”? If so, could you try entering a nearby address instead? To be clear, I’m not suggesting that you enter your own complete address. But a local park or grocery store or something.

    Hi,
The way it is described in your link above is not available for me. I add location on the left side, where it says “Location.” I type in Copenhagen and hit search and it appears to accept that. I don’t want to use my actual specific location (in Copenhagen East – København Ø) because Copenhagen is descriptive enough.
The main problem, is that this seems to change after I have published a post and for some reason it becomes “København V” (Copenhagen West), where I am not even located and didn’t enter in. Do you have any suggestions how to keep the location I enter and how to keep WordPress from changing my location after I publish a post?

  • Can you show me a screenshot of what you are seeing when you enter your location so I can see how it is different from the instructions in the link?

Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:

    Take a Screenshot

I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload the screenshot to your site’s media library. I will be able to see it there.

    Hi,

I have added two images to my media library, as Location 1 (where I will type in Copenhagen and hit search) and Location 2 (after I have added Copenhagen). If I would hit the “Get Current Location” button, it would add København Ø (the neighborhood where I am), but I want my location to be Copenhagen in general and in English.

  • I was able to replicate this and it appears to be a bug somewhere. I will have to research it.

Could you try editing the location (or creating a new post) in the post using the classic dashboard post editor and letting me know if that has the same issue for you:

I have the same issue and it’s very annoying. I would type in a city, it accepts it and then later on it changes it do a specific street or park which I didn’t want. Would be great if this could be fixed.
In addition I’m also struggling to see what use the Geotagging does, if you cant do anything with them. I would love to have them show on a map somewhere on my site, but no themes seem to offer this feature and I don’t want to move to the .org version where there seem to be plug-ins for this kind of thing…

    Hi Rootjosh,

I have added my location through both the ways to add new posts and I get the same result. To test again, I made another new post today through the classic dashboard and all appeared to be fine. But, then when I go to edit it, we are back to København V.

  • It seems this is a “bug” that will need to be looked into. I have reported it and will report back with any changes.

  • @carriebethpeterson

Does it display København V on the post itself, or just in the edit window?

On the post itself. Sometimes, I notice the change when I go back to edit a post, other times i notice it has changed when I view my page/posts. Hopefully they can fix the bug, thanks for your help!
