How can I stop the "Blog Subscription" widget from redirecting my readers?

Instead of allowing people to simply enter their email addresses, there is simply a “Follow” button with a little plus symbol inside of it. When my readers click on it, it redirects them to the wordpress.com site. I am getting a lot of complaints from people concerning this and, subsequently, I am not getting subscribers.
How can I fix this?

Hi there,
For users who are logged into WordPress.com, the Follow button should change from Follow to Following after clicking on it.
Users who are not logged into WordPress, or who do not have an account, should be asked to enter their email address after clicking on the Follow button.
Can you let me know if you’re readers are experiencing this problem when logged into their WordPress account or when they’re not logged in?

The follow button is there whether or not readers are signed in to wordpress. This is particularly worrying, since my readers are confused by who they are trying to follow.
I have tried from multiple computers which have never visited my site and the problem is the same: when you click the ‘follow’ button, the field appears to enter your email address, but the page is then redirected to the wordpress.com page.
I am using the theme ‘Liquorice’ and I love it and would prefer not to change it.

The “Subscribe” issue shouldn’t have to do with your theme, so no need to make any changes there :)
However, when I try inserting my email to follow your blog and click “Sign Me Up,” everything appears to be functioning correctly. Are your users simply clicking on “Sign Me Up” and not inserting their email?
I apologize for any confusion! We’ve made a few changes to the Subscribe button since a good amount of users were unhappy with the change. It’s also possible there’s a slight lag between our responses to each other as these changes take place.

I think you’re right about the lag time. I just checked and the ‘Sign Me Up’ does appear to be working fine now.
