How can I switch off Beep Beep Boop editor?
-
Hi,
how can I switch off the Beep Beep Boop editor?
It is very complicate and I always use the classic editor. But If I want to modify an article, it goes back to the Beep Beep Boop …The system does not remember …
Best regards

You cannot switch it off but you can take a detour:
hover over “My sites” top left, from the dropdown click on “Blog posts”, it will take you to the page listing all your blog posts, below the post click on “Edit”, left, that will take you to the classic editor. Also: see this forum topic for some handy links to back to the classic editor:

Thank you for this link.
It is a pity that there is no way to connect “edit” with the easier “old” editor.
I will read the solutions you provided. I already found a link from the admin page for new posts and a very long way to edit old ones.
It will be good to find easier access somehow. It is a pity that the programmers replaced an easy and sophisticated editor by a difficult one.

Be prepared for the moment when these workarounds provided in my post no longer work.

tpenguinltg made a post with a list of work-arounds so you can use the classic editor both for making a new post and editing older posts. I use the user script with Greasemonkey on Firefox and it works better than the cookies WP used before they eliminated it.
All workarounds to get back to the WordPress.com classic editor

@dandelionsalad
Are you aware that the post I published that mableamber pointed hutschi to at Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface contains everything in terms of locating the ways and means (and workarounds) of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats. -
I’ve been blogging for almost 6 years, and I tell you, I hate hate HATE the new beep beep boop thing and would love to sit down with its inventor for a little coffee and exchange of ideas.
a while ago you could switch to the old one easily once that new monstrosity popped up, now, the only way is the convoluted maneuver of going back to the POSTS tab and editing from there.
I don’t know the proportion of bloggers dissatisfied with the beep beep, but perhaps the folks behind WordPress could run a poll and find out? And if most are in our team, they could admit making a boo-boo with the beep beep?
-
imperialtwilight made a poll where you can vote for your preference: http://www.poll-maker.com/poll277402x1D5c4173-10
Unfortunately, not that many WP bloggers even know about it to vote their preference. The link is also on my blog post (link in above comment).
-
I voted on your poll, and was amazed by the results, so many bloggers despise it!
we are not alone, my friend (if that is any consolation…)
-
Thanks, Sally. Although it’s not my poll. imperialtwilight made it and many of us bloggers have linked to it to get more votes. Yes, the disapproval of Beep, Beep, Boop is quite outstanding.
The solution is so easy. WP needs to put the link back so users have a choice and don’t have to rely on work-arounds. Like I mentioned in this comment, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-switch-off-beep-beep-boop-editor?replies=9#post-2350465, there are ways to automatically use the classic editor both for adding a new posts and editing older posts (very handy for those of us who do a lot of editing).

When compared to the ten of thousands of bloggers who blog here where hosting is free the number of complaints is few. Moreover, nothing will deter management and Staff from development of the new editor, which is aimed to provide access to the site to all, regardless of which devices we use and no matter where in the world we reside. No amount of hang wringing and/or exaggeration and/or bogus biased polls are going to change the plan. We bloggers are fortunate that WordPress.com management and Staff choose to provide the classic editor for our use as well as the new editor.
-
Hi, timethieth, I do not have a problem with this that thousands prefer the new complicate to use one. But it would be good, when the system remembers my selection. At the moment, I can live with the work arounds. Only that the new editor often opened unexpected is not so good. But I thank you anyway for taking time to help.

I am very happy with WordPress, never meant to imply the contrary. But from what I understood, the classic editor will not be around forever, and it is now harder to get it to work, as by default the new editor shows up.
As to the poll being biased, or bogus, how do we know it is biased, or it isn’t? Are there other sources of feedback on the new editor available?
I guess it is all pointless, as you mentioned, the staff and management will do what they think is best, and maybe there are reasons behind it that escape me – computer used, location, etc etc. Still, from my personal point of view, the new editor is cumbersome, and that beep beep boop as silly as silly can be
;-) -
Apologies for the older editor being hard to get to. The reason for that is to get movement onto the new one so we can work to make something better in the long term. A lot of things have been fixed in the newer editor, and improvements, updates, and responses to feedback about the new editor are continuing too. What I can do to help is make sure specific issues are logged going forward. I care about and appreciate specific feedback, and if you’ve got notes for me, I will make sure each issue gets reviewed—though I can’t promise changes for every request and I will try to sort all the reported issues by severity so the most severe bugs get fixed first.

Hi, designsimply,
I have following problems with the new one:It is harder to enter tags and keywords, I do not get a list to select from.
The screen design is so that I have much more to scroll.
It is or it seems to be much slower.I do not find a possibility to get back the colors. It may depend on age but I do not like visual changes. It takes a long time to reorganize my brain to find the details again.
I do not like the Beep Beep Boop start. Maybe it depends on my native language, giving bad associations.
The old one is more intuitive and much faster. I get the essential parts on the screen without scrolling. On the new one, many of the elements are outside of the desktop, but without much more space for the text.
Others will have other problems, my main problems are tagging and screen design, including work space and colors.
Best regards

It is harder to enter tags and keywords, I do not get a list to select from.
A list of the most popular tags should appear as soon as you start typing. Then use the arrows to select the one you want (or keep typing until the one you want is first) and then hit enter. It actually took me a couple tries to get it (because I was so used to the old way), but once I got used to it, I actually started to like the new way of editing adding tags and categories better.
The screen design is so that I have much more to scroll.
The editor part itself? The new editor itself is actually taller by default and so there should be less scrolling needed (if we are talking about the same thing). Or if you mean the panels like Change Status, Tags & Categories, Sharing, etc. on the left, does it help to only open one at a time when you edit?
It is or it seems to be much slower.
That one I’m not sure about and haven’t experienced myself. I will keep an eye out for similar reports.
I do not like the Beep Beep Boop start. Maybe it depends on my native language, giving bad associations.
Sorry about that! It’s a little whimsical. :) We actually removed it and people complained about that too, and so then it was added back! Maybe it will be removed some day, but it’s an issue of preference and it’s one of those cases where you can’t please everyone. :)
The old one is more intuitive and much faster.
I think this is the perception because you are really used to the old one. That said, it’s worth looking into and we will be testing the editor a lot more in the future and also making updates to it based on feedback.
I do not find a possibility to get back the colors. It may depend on age but I do not like visual changes. It takes a long time to reorganize my brain to find the details again.
You make a good point about colors. I can’t promise a change on colors, but I can tell you there have been discussions about adding color schemes and if that goes through then it will help a lot.
Changes are coming but also may take time! I hope you will stick it out and give the new editor more chances. Thank you very much for your feedback.

Beep beep Boop is a touch of whimsy? Really? Hmmmmm. No comment.
As for not being able to please everyone, I thought that’s why preferences were invented. If you refuse to offer a preference to use the old editor, how about a “whimsy off” preference instead?
Finally, just what is happening while the editor is beep beep booping for that interminable time? Anything constructive? The classic editor and also the WP App editor fire up immediately, so what’s occurring?
-
On the subject of the “beep beep boop” loading message text, I can’t really say for sure to be honest! Sorry I don’t have a more solid answer or ability to make a change for that particular text myself. Some people love the text and some people hate it. I think it’s crazy that it got so controversial. It’s certainly my personal opinion that it’s whimsical. Apologies if you hate that I said that.
just what is happening while the editor is beep beep booping for that interminable time?
I’m not sure! But it’s very possible that it’s due to a combination of things, including that the code for the new one just isn’t as fast as we hoped it would be to start off. I did try comparing the two myself just using built in browser tools, and they both load within a couple seconds of each other for me, however, the new editor displays that loading message you don’t like sooner and leaves it up until the page is fully loaded whereas the classic editor doesn’t use any loading message so it might just appear to be more snappy because of how various elements appear (or don’t appear) on the page as it loads. That’s my hypothesis. What I can tell you for certain is that making the editor work better is a priority and it will continue to get better, including getting faster, in the future.
The classic editor and also the WP App editor fire up immediately, so what’s occurring?
It shouldn’t be slower and needs to be fixed. I don’t know how to explain what’s occurring exactly. I don’t think it’s an easy problem to solve or it would have been solved already. You are right that it’s important.
