How can I switch off the new form of notifications pop-up

  • Unknown's avatar

The new format of notifications popup on the blogs header wp-admin bar is annoying, time-consuming and overdressed and unnecessarily comlicated. I want to get rid of it and use the old form, which is much more user friendly (even if not so “modern” and “fancy”).
wordpress is making many wrong decision right now in changing all this tools and views like editor and wp-admin menu and stuff, nobody has asked for making things worse. I don’t like that and I want to have a choice. Looking sexy is not everything. It has to work fine for the user. You are forgetting about the user and deciding to have “function has to be submissive opposite form”. Hate it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

We definitely appreciate your feedback. It isn’t possible to switch back to the old form of notifications. Could you elaborate on specifically what elements of the notifications you would like to see changed? Is it the size of the notification window or how the window operates? Appreciate your constructive feedback!

    Hi.
    1. It’s slow. I takes several seconds to start loading, and needs some more to show the content (as where the old one just popped up instantly).
    2. Nobody needs infinite scrolling in there. If I want likes from 6 month ago I can go for the archiove. This tool should inform about actual activities only – Less is more…
    3. It is annoying to have this to level thing going on: Old version, klick an get a second window with details – nice. New version: Change to sub level, you then have to go “back”. What for?
    4. No more possibilities to quickly answer, like, call that sepcific post like in the old version.
    5. Why did the archive of notifications and “trophys” switch to the other menu below the avatar? It is connected with the notifications and therefore should stay in touch with that functionality.
    6. Everything is just too big. I like to see a little bigger gravatars, but these single rows per entry are a little to “heavy”.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I’ve addressed several individual comments below:

It seems to be popping up instantly on my side! Have you tried this on multiple browsers and machines?

It is annoying to have this to level thing going on: Old version, klick an get a second window with details – nice. New version: Change to sub level, you then have to go “back”. What for?

The idea here is to contain everything in one window rather than have the windows spread out across the screen.

No more possibilities to quickly answer, like, call that sepcific post like in the old version.

You should see the quick reply option underneath a comment like this:

Your trophies and achievements should appear within the normal flow of the comments. However, they’re also shown here so you can view them all in one place!

Do you really think I have the possibility to test on several machines, environments and browsers? I am not Google. Or Bill & Belinda.

Still hate the new version, but anyhow it will not change. You will keep on overengineering what seemed to be understandable, easy to view and nice to handle. Best example: Old statistics now also disappeared from the wp-admin menu. New version: Scroll yourself to death…

Same with comments, thats not for reasons of making it more accessible but for sure only because of maintenance costs.

Forget about it. Will not follow this posts any longer, just consumes time without results.
If you use wordpress, live with whatever they force you to use.

Hi Michael – I can definitely tell your frustrated, and I understand how irritating slow loading can be. If you could try this on another browser like Chrome (free), I’m more than happy to continue helping you troubleshoot.
