How can I tell if a comment is spam?

Akismet has selected a comment on my blog as spam. I was wondering how can I tell if really is spam or if it’s a legitimate comment? Thank you… Suzi

I recommend checking the e-mail. If you see something like porn-vid, poker, healthcare at gmail.com or something, then it’s spam. Also if the comment is completely unrelated to the post. Also if the comment says something like “You have great blog. I visit again, you make happy :)”. Things like that, though it’s kind of intuitive in most cases, after a while you’ll be able to tell.
Also should note that some comments are mistakenly placed in the spam folder, just click the approve link and eventually Akismet will learn to not recognize that commentor as spam

“Newbie here, I wanted to advise you of the [link]malwarebyte[/link] that is going around the net. This might be a bit off topic but hopefully it will help folks get that crapy spyware off their PC. Thanks, Newbie”
the word malwarebyte probably linked to some awful site lol, spammers are getting more, human like in their comments these days.

I get spam comments like that, I’d take that as spam.
Nothing overtly bad would happen if you approved it, I mean, for a spam comment it is a nice one lol. The worst that could happen is that whenever that spammer decides to spam your blog, they might not be caught by Askimet. Though, I did have a spam comment before that whenever I click on the blog post, it would redirect to another site and you definitely wouldn’t want that. Also I have a spam comment that actually cause the comment box to disappear from the page. Other than that, most problems that might occur with spam comments can be solved by removing the spam comment, so it’s not a big deal.
