How can I temporarily disable email notifications to my followers?
-
I need to upload a lot of old content, but do not want my followers to receive email notifications about this content.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to disable email notifications sent to your followers. However, what you can do is set your site temporarily to private by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard.
Go to Site Visibility and select I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose.
Please note during this time no one will be able to view your site. So right after you upload the old content please turn it back to public.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thank you, Grace. But even if I make the site temporarily private, my followers will still receive a long email that shows them the entire post with old content. It will be confusing and annoying.
1) So is there any way to shorten the email notification so it just shows the first paragraph — or even just the title — of a post?
2) What if I schedule all the posts (about 5) to upload at the exact same time. Will the followers receive 5 emails or just one email?
Thanks so much for your help, Grace!

Hi there,
Sorry I wasn’t being very clear. I’ve tested it out and after you make your site private, none of your followers should receive emails about any new posts. So during that privatized period you can upload as many posts as you want and none of your followers should receive an email notification about the posts. Once all the old content is uploaded you can make your site public again.
Happy Blogging!

Thanks so much, Grace. I will give this a try.
Could I trouble you to answer this question: Whether or not the email notification could show just the title and a few lines from the post? Right now, followers get the entire post inside the email text. This means they do not visit the site because they don’t need to. I’d like to be able to “tease” people by email, but have them click through to the site to drive traffic.
Many thanks for all your kind assistance!

Sure! You can do that by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard. Look for the “For each article in a feed, show” setting, and select Summary. Make sure to save your changes!
Cheers!
