How can I transfer an article on Word to my blog. I.ve followed the instruction

I am hopeless with computers (I’m 77- I know that’s not much of an excuse but it’s the only one I have). I’ve managed to set up a blog as I wanted to publish an article I have written on Word. However even when I follow the instruction I can’t get it on my blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you try copying the content of the Word document and pasting it into a New Post in your WPAdmin Dashboard area? What steps have you taken so far?

I’ve followed the instructions on Word ie. send and save. send to blog. chosen word press. entered billwhiffen.wordpress.com. but it doesn’t go. I haven’t tried anything else. I don’t know how to cut and paste and have no idea what my WPA Dashboard is.

    Sorry

Okay, so you’re logged in to WordPress.com right now to view this message. If you look up at the top left corner of the screen, you’ll see the words “My Sites.”

When you roll your mouse over that you should see a dropdown menu letting you choose a site (if you have more than one site!).

That site name will have another flyout menu that starts with “WP Admin.” That’s your Dashboard.

Click on that WPAdmin and you land in your website control center. Once you’re there, you’ll see a left hand sidebar with lots of stuff, and one of those items is “Posts.”

If you click on the word Posts you’ll see the opportunity to “Add New.” And that’s where you’ll paste your Word document content that you’ve copied. Let me know how this goes!

And to copy and paste your Word document, you use your mouse to highlight all the words in your document and hit the CTRL and the C key at the same time to copy (if you’re using a Windows computer).

If you give up on me I won’t blame you. I’ve highlighted the word document and hi ctrl and c. Nothing happened. I still don’t understand how I get it to my blog. I found “posts” and clicked on it and got a new page headed Subject. I know I can type in this but still don’t know how to get the word document across. I have started typing it in but it at because it is in stages it is completely out of sequence. I know that no one is likely to read it but I’d still like to complete it!

Use Ctrl+C on your Word document, go to your WordPress account and press Ctrl+V……Simple.

Just noticed that you’re trying to post 16 pages onto a blog. People might feel that it’s too long and it needs breaking down into smaller ‘blogs’ then they don’t get bored easily. If you get what I mean.

If I was you I would try and break it up!

It’s looking good, @billwhiffen! @daelpix is right – web audiences struggle with long format writing and like shorter paragraphs if your article needs to be a long one.

If you have time and you’re interested, WordPress.com is sponsoring a free workshop, Blogging 101, March 2-20, 2015. I think it would be a super way to learn more about writing for web audiences.

    Hi susanhayse and daelpix
thanks for the advice I’ve got to take it anyway because when I tried to paste I managed to delete it ( I’ve been writing it for about 18 months and it started as four pages) and I’ve no idea how to retrieve it. Fortunately I printed it out when I started the blog. One thing that bothers me is that new posts go to the top so that in a longish piece it ends up with the last page being first. It’s like starting a book on it’s last page and working towards the first. I like the idea of a tutorial but I want to get my blog finished first. In any case you are dealing with someone who found PC’s for dummies too challenging. I’m about to add some more now.
    Regards
    Bill

A blog does not have a book-like structure but you can restructure it.

You cannot reverse the order of post display by clicking a link. Blogs are essentially a reverse chronological order publishing tool, wherein the most recent published post will display on top. You cannot change this order on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It’s designed to serve your visitors as they come to read the most recent posts and will not be inclined to trawl through hundreds of posts to locate it.

See here for the option of creating a book-like structure > http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/ Perhaps that will work for you.

Or you could use a single sticky post as an index page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

Or you can falsify every date-stamp before publishing.
