How can I turn off WordPress’ index.php redirect to root /
-
Hi all,
WordPress Version: 2.7
OS: LinuxSituation: I have just installed WordPress in the background of an existing website that uses index.shtml as it’s index page.
WordPress is installed and working fine, but I cannot view the WordPress site unless I use a .htaccess file to force the DirectoryIndex to be index.php.
When I do that, of course, the whole world sees my incomplete WordPress site. It’s akin to walking in on your date when she’s half dressed. Not cool.
Question: How can I turn off WordPress’ apparent default tendency to redirect the index.php page to the http://www.domain.tld/ root?
Side Note: I tried setting the “WordPress address (URL)” field in the General Settings to http://www.domain.tld/index.php and completely borked the site. I couldn’t even log into the admin dashboard after that. I eventually had to edit the URL field value by going into the options table in the database itself. Sheesh!

Gratuitous Comment: Why no preview or post editing on this forum system? What is this … 1996? Sheesh! x 2 (lol).

It looks like you’re in the wrong forum; please head over to http://www.wordpress.org/support

Thanks, bubel :)
Just as an aside, what is the difference between WordPress.com > Forums > Support (where I am now), and WordPress.org > Forums > Support (where I’m supposed to be)?

thesacredpath,
Thanks for the link.
For the uninitiated (like me), the two sites are indistinguishable.

You’re welcome, and yes I know. We are hoping staff are going to do something to clarify things more soon. It wastes your time as well as the time of the volunteers here in the forum.
