How can I update my older version of WP?

  I have an older version of WP. It does not have an ‘update’ link in the Dashboard sidebar. How can I update to WP 3.5.1? I have cleared the FireFx and Safari browser with the same results.
  I have downloaded the 3.5.1 version.

  We don’t have versions of WordPress software here on wp.com. Staff is constantly updating and changing things behind the scenes so our version is newer than the wp.org software.
