How can I updgrade wordpressand install plug-ins?

    Hi there,

I write a blog called The Techno Kittens (www.thetechnokittens.com). I’m having trouble trying to find plug-ins on my administrator panel and wonder if I am operating an old version of WordPress. When I signed up I did it all through wordpress so I wasn’t involved with the installation etc and bought the domain name through wordpress.

I was thinking it may be because the version of wordpress I’m using is old and needs upgrading. I’ve searched other forum posts to find out what version I’m working but I cannot seem to find the version number anywhere in my admin panel (at the bottom etc) or anywhere else for that matter.

Can anyone help me to understand how I can use plug ins and how I can check if I need to upgrade wordpress (and how if necessary!)?

    Thanks so much
    Leigh

Your blog is hosted here on wordpress.com so you are using a version newer than new! Things are always changing here as staff experiments and automatically updates constantly.

What you need to know is that there is more than one kind of wordpress:
    wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG

We cannot use plugins on wp.com. We have no FTP access.

    Here are some details:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Which comes down to: you cannot upgrade on wp.com to use plugins. You can choose to find a host and use wp.ORG software.
