How can I upload a mp4 video?
-
Uploading worked fine with 2 videos [ca 30 MB], but when trying to upload a larger one [58 MB], I get an http error message.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sometimes there are encoding issues with a particular video, or the media uploader could time out on a larger file.
I’m seeing some recent uploads in a different format, which was going to be one of my suggestions to resolve this. Were you able to resolve the issue?
If you continue to have this issue with multiple videos, please let me know.

Thanks for your help. I suspect it’s the uploader timing out, as it only appears with files larger than 50MB. They upload to about 55 – 60 % and then uploading stops and I get this http-error message. Meanwhile, I’ve uploaded the files as AVIs, and, those being much smaller, everything works fine. Except that in the process of conversion the videos loose quality. So, it would be fine if there was a solution and I could upload the larger files in HD quality. Any suggestions?

Our system will allow for larger videos but it could be your internet connection isn’t allowing a clean transfer of the larger files. You might try uploading them from a different location if possible to see if that works for you.

I’ll have to check with the provider [TWC] if there’s a limit of how large a file I can upload. I don’t think it’s the speed of the connection [ca. 5 Mbps]. I’ll let you know.
Meanwhile, have a gret weekend,
Pit
P.S.: And, of course, I’ll try from a different location. -
It may not be your connection speed, but there could be issues with the connection where the file doesn’t transfer cleanly in the time it takes to upload.
In addition to testing from a different connection, you might also try a different browser like Chrome just to see if that makes a difference.
If you’re still running into this issue after testing it further, please do the following:
1) Paste the exact error you’re getting when you try to upload the larger videos;
2) If possible, upload a larger video to something like Dropbox so I can download it on my end and test it to make sure it’s not the video itself that’s the issue. -
Thanks again for your help/suggestions. It’ll take me a while, though, before I can manage to try everything. Can we keep this thread open for some time, please?
-
Sure, no problem. If for some reason it gets closed before you fully resolve things (they close automatically after a period of inactivity) feel free to post a new one.

I’ve just tried to upload the video from a different location [with a slower connection] and there the upload stops even sooner, at 26%, than before [at 57%]. The error message is a simple “HTTP error” – no explanation, no code.
I’ll try to upload it to my cloud storage at GMX.DE later and let you know how to access and download the file. -

Problem solved! :) :) It was a browser problem after all. With Google Chrome it worked in a jiffy. I uploaded another, even larger, file and that went well, too. So, I might try to find out why Mozilla’s Firefox didn’t want to do its job. Or I might not, since I have a working solution.
Thank you ever so much for your help and your patience with me: much appreciated.
Best regards from southern Texas,

You’re very welcome from Austin. :)
As for why it didn’t work in Firefox, it’s hard to say, but it could be a setting or extension interfering in some way.

Well, as I said: now that I have a working solution, I may try to find out why Firefox doesn’t upload those files, or I may not. Thanks again for your help: I really appreciate your efforts.
