How can I upload a theme that's not on the WordPress site?
-
Hello there,
I recently bought a theme from Empire, which says it’s compatible with WordPress: http://themeforest.net/item/empire-elegant-wordpress-theme/1199025
However, I’ve realised that I can’t upload it to my WordPress blog by going through the WordPress admin/themes panel. Is there a way round this? The Empire theme says it is compatible with WordPress, so I would have thought there was some way to upload it?
Any help very welcome!
Thanks,

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM. We are limited to the 150+ (and growing) themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.
Themes at wordpress.COM have to be modified to work within the restrictions here and to support the unique features.
The differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org (self-hosted) sites.
To use that theme, you would have to self-host a blog on a third-party hosting service such as dreamhost, bluehost, etc. Figure an average monthly cost, all things considered, of $10 to $25 and you will be responsible for all installations, all updates, all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, such as installing a theme or plugin that kills your site, or a botched update of a theme, plugin, or wordpress core, you have to figure it out and fix it.
