How can I upload images?
-
I don’t have the Upload Media etc buttons on the editing toolbar
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
The original place to create a post with full features to upload images, etc is here Dashboard > Posts > Add New and it works well for me. In fact I never ever use the Add New at https://wordpress.com/post/ which is undergoing changes as part of an ongoing project to make the site multi-device friendly.
Go to Dashboard > Post > Add New
For inserting images see http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/
Note that you can post your feedback here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/posting-articles-2?replies=67

the advice on the adding-images-to … page doesn’t work – the images won’t drag and drop either.
I think I must have lost something at the upgrade!Maddy

These instructions work for me http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/ Perhaps you have a browser related issue. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -
I’m working through this but can’t actually work out how to do some of them. I am a medieval historian and happier with a quill pen! The problem I have is that it used to work, I’ve been away for about a month and now it doesn’t work. Any ideas why?

Dashboard option sort-of-works – I can put images into the image file and load from there but can’t simply put them into the text.
Honestly, all I want at this stage is a simple online diary to share notes about heritage footpath projects. I may want something more complicated when I need a proper web site, but at present I like simple!
anyway, thanks for the help – hope I can remember how to work it next timeMaddy

many thanks. I think the problem is I’m not very tech savvy! which was why I liked the easy way of doing things.

Creating posts and embedding images into them here > Posts > Add New ought not to be difficult. It isn’t for me using IE11and Firefox 30. I dislike Chrome so I don’t use it.

Hi Maddy,
Thanks for the feedback! Our team is working on improvements to the new post page at https://wordpress.com/post/ and they are specifically working on features to make adding images easier there.
For now, though, you should be able to add media under Posts > Add New in your blog’s dashboard, as timethief mentioned. If that doesn’t work for you, either, please let me know exactly what steps you’re using to try to add an image to your post and where you get stuck. I’ll be happy to investigate the issue for you. :)

I have good news, the ‘add media’ button has returned:
Please take a look and let me know if you have any trouble.
