How can I use a response to a contact form to generate/trigger an auto-reeponse?

  I’d like to be able to send a form email back to people who fill out the contact form on my blog.

  Hi Ron!

  The best way to do this would be to set-up an auto responder from your email service provider where the contact forms are being directed. For instance, if your contact form sends the email to your personal email account (on Gmail for instance), you would need to set-up an auto response from Gmail to send out whenever it recognizes the contact form submission email address. To find out the latter, just submit a request through the form and see what address it comes from. For reference, it should be something to the effect of (email visible only to moderators and staff).

  Jeremy,
  This is not working. What I want to happen is to have an email sent to the address a visitor plugs into the contact form on my blog. Right now emails generated by the contact form go to a separate gmail account I set up to do this but they come from (email visible only to moderators and staff). I’ve seen this batted around in several threads in the forums and there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of help. This seems like a relatively simple function. What do I need to do to make this happen? BTW that tutorial is about 4 years old…

  Hi Ron,

  I apologize. When you click manually on a contact form submission email, the “reply” field is automatically filled with the recipients address. However, after a bit of testing, when an auto responder replies to the email, it sends the reply to (email visible only to moderators and staff) as you mentioned. Currently, it doesn’t look like there is a way to do this. If you would like this to be added in the future, could you submit it to the Ideas forum? We’re always looking to add new features.
