How can I use the custom design upgrade on a blog with a domain hosted elsewhere
-
My domain is hosted with dreamhost and I am using the wordpress plugin.. I would like to purchase the custom design upgrade, but when I try to do this from the wordpress store the only options I have are for the blogs I own with the wordpress.com domain (cupcakemom.wordpress.com is an option, theshaydlane.com is not). Is the custom design package unavailable for custom domains, or am I missing something?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All WordPress.COM upgrades here are available for purchase and use on WordPress.COM hosted blogs only. Whether or not the blog is on it’s own domain that is irrelevant. It’s the WordPress.COM hosting that’s relevant.

We provide support only for blogs being hosted WordPress.COM and not for WordPress.ORG software installs.WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

If you have Jetpack you should be able to access most if not all of the custom design upgrade features for free on a self-hosted site.

I’m confused as to what wordpress.org has to do with my post?
So what you’re saying is that if I host my blog on dreamhost with the wordpress plugin I can’t subscribe to any wordpress design upgrades?

With jetpack I see an option to use custom CSS, but I don’t know enough CSS to know where to begin customizing. I was hoping for a more straighforward option that wouldn’t require having to learn CSS.

@lizthefair
Thanks for that.@shadylane85
CSS editing is free of charge on any WordPress.ORG install. The JetPack plugin is found here http://jetpack.meSome JetPack solutions are here http://jetpack.me/support/
Others are in the JetPack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack
Note: If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.org, click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post there. However, if you can’t find help at either one then you can file a JetPack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

That’s what I assumed when I first posted above. There is no Staff support for WordPress.ORG blogging and you cannot get CSS editing support here for any WordPress.ORG install which is why I did not refer to Jetpack. To hire a web developer or design go to Code Poet, a directory of WordPress professionals, web designers, and developers brought to you by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and the largest operator of WordPress sites (20 million and counting). Here’s the link http://codepoet.com/ Or get CSS support on the WordPress.ORG support forums. http://wordpress.org/support/forum/themes-and-templates

Ok, it seems wordpress does not offer what I am looking for, I will look into other platforms. Thank you!

You’re right WordPress.COM does not provide upgrades and support for them for WordPress.ORG installs. Best wishes with your site.
