How can I use the more tag in a Pilcrow theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve tryed to cut my posts so the reader can see a portion of them and then decide to go on reading or not. But the “more” tag doesnt work in my web site. I have tryed to use de excerpt tag as well, but haven’t been succesful. Is it because of the Pilcrow Theme?

To show excerpts of your posts on the front page, you can use the “more” tag – it should work on all themes on WordPress.com. This will split posts in the position you choose – everything before this position will be shown on both the front page and single post page, and everything after this positing will only be shown on the single post page. The front page will show a “Read More” link to continue reading after the splitting position.

Can you walk me through exactly what you were doing to use the “more” tag, and where it went wrong?

    Thanks.
    1. Maybe it is useful to say my blog or website is in spanish, this is the reason for my imperfect english. Does the languaje interfere with the tags?
    2. I opened one post already published to cut it because it was too long.
    3. In the visual mode I put the curson between two paragraphs.
    4. Then I inserted the more tag with the simbol of separation that says more.
    5. I saved the changes.
    6. I went to see my post page expecting that the text was separated.
    7. The text of the post was not divided.

Then I repeated this actions several times in diferent posts without any good results. I did page separation (page 1, page 2, page 3, etc.), and worked ok.
I would like that the more tag to be in sapanish “sigue leyendo”.

Though I am not an expert in html language now I’m going to try with the suggestions you send me. I’l keep you posted.

    Thaks very much again.

  • Separation of the “more” tag will only occur on the main page of the blog.

To split the post in the single post view, you’ll need to use pages.
