How can the usefulness of our blog stats be preserved?
-
Dear WordPress Team,
I have a problem with my stats. They are now rendered effectively pointless by the frequent and random hits of a certain ‘semalt.com/crawler’. I have discovered that a lot of other wordpress bloggers are also unhappy about this and have posted pages of complaints on the web.
I would like to state that I am adding my plea to theirs that you find a way to somehow exclude their hits from our stats, or to tell us how to block them.
Thank you for your consideration!

Hi Fabienne!
WordPress.com users can now mark referrers that they do not wish to see as spam as described here:
That will remove the referrer from your stats page. However, that will not remove the referrer from your individual stats (just hide them from the referrer section). Does that make sense?
Let me know if that is what you’re looking for!

Thanks for the reply, Jeremey, but it seems to me that it is missing the point. I do not have a problem with seeing the referrer in my stats page, but with the annoying fact that this ‘semalt.com/crawler’ is choosing countries on the world map of my stats that have not shown any hits yet and adds a few of these every day under ‘unknown search terms’. As every blogger knows, it is important to see new countries show up in ones stats, but only if they indicate genuine readers. This pesky crawler is now rendering our individual stats worthless, and I agree with the large number of bloggers who think that WordPress should do something about it. Surely your gifted team can come up with a workable idea?

Hi Fabienne,
I completely understand your concerns. Semalt referrers are on our radar to watch for. We’re continuing to monitor the referrer and may consider placing a block in the future!
