How can "theme twenty fourteen" headers show diacritical marks correctly?

In Theme Twenty Fourteen, if I type a title using diacritical marks (ā, ē, ī, ū, ņ, ķ, ļ, ģ), these letters appear bolded — inconsistent with the rest of the title. This does not happen with š or ž. Is there a fix for this issue?

    Thank you!

So I just did a little detective work: using Typecast (http://typecast.com/preview/google/Lato) and setting the font size to 33px with 300 weight (similar to the one you have on your site), I can confirm that the issue happens there, too.

So the issue likely comes from the font itself: the currently used Light 300 font weight does not contain complete diacritical marks, so it uses the next best available font weight. That happens to be font weight 400, precisely the one that appears bolded now.

I think the only thing we can do from our side right now is use Custom CSS to change the post title’s font weight to 400, so everything looks normal (but a bit bolder than it is now).

Otherwise we can’t do anything until the author of the Lato font updates the font and it gets applied to Google Fonts, from which the theme gets its fonts.
