How can we add articles in another language and have them appear as blog posts?
-
Our blog articles are currently being translated into another language for a sizable audience. Currently, we have individual pages for French and Spanish articles, however, the articles don’t appear as individual articles with ‘share’ buttons; similar to how they are on the home page. How could we set this up to allow our French and Spanish audience to like and share individual articles?
Thanks!

Hi there!
Currently, it appears as if you’re adding these multi-language articles to your existing static Pages.
My suggestion is to create the articles as Posts rather than pasting them into Pages. Then, you could create the categories, “En Français” and “En Español.” You can assign the appropriate posts to those categories.
Afterward, you’ll add those Categories to your menu, so they can be clicked on, just like your other menu items.
Your Spanish-speaking visitors can click on “En Español” and they will be taken to a Category page that will display all Spanish blog posts. They can click on these posts and Share them just like any other blog post.
Here is information about creating and using Categories:

Thanks for the response. With the method you suggested, does it mean that those who subscribe to the blog will receive the Spanish and French version of the same posts if we do it that way? Is there a way to set it up where followers won’t receive 3 different versions of the same entry?
Thanks!

Hi there,
Unfortunately, that does mean that your followers would receive three different variations of each post. Another option that might work is to have an entirely separate blog that houses posts in different languages. You could have one blog for Spanish posts and another for French. You would link to each blog from your “main” English page.
The method is laid out here:
Would that work better for what you’re looking for? In that case, users would only receive email updates for the individual blog they’re subscribed to (English, French, or Spanish).

Thanks Jeremy. We were trying to avoid creating and managing a second blog, especially to keep the traffic coming to one platform, but it seems as if this might be the route to go. We want to make it identical to the current one: do we just create a new one from scratch?
Thanks!

Hi!
Honestly, I think that’s the best option for multilingual blogs. Although this means your traffic is sent to multiple places, I think it creates the best experiences for readers.
To add a new blog, you can just follow the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-blog-to-an-existing-account
The important part is that those instructions add a new blog without also creating an existing account, which is what we want.
Give that a shot and let me know if you run into any trouble!
