How can WordPress te?ll me that a topic has been started 45 years ago
-
First you change the stats pages which is SO annoying because I really don’t want to scroll down forever, the way you now make me do.
Secondly, I’m able to access the classic stats page, but I learn that that won’t be for long – damm and blast!
But thirdly, I’ve just logged in for the first time this morning and found an email telling me that:
Congratulations, you are now subscribed to the site raw4more.wordpress.com (http://raw4more.wordpress.com) and will receive an email notification when a new post is made.
– What????? Please tell me how someone has the power to subscribe me to something that I’ve no interest in while I’m sleeping? To top it off, I’ve tried a few times to send this message to your engineers and everytime I get a notification saying that the topic is closed – What?????? I’ve only just sent the query! And then the screen says says:
‘About this Topic: Started 45 years ago by Anonymous’
– What????? 45 years, yeah right! Will someone please get back to me and explain what is going on.
Thanks

I just took a look and it doesn’t look like this blog is doing anything nefarious to increase their followers. Your WordPress.com account followed the site. Maybe you accidentally clicked the “Follow” button in the Reader or mobile app?
You can edit your subscriptions and remove this one here:
https://wordpress.com/following/edit/
As for your complaints about the stats page, I’m happy to pass on any specific complaints you have about the new pages. If there’s something that interrupts your workflow or is missing that you used often, let me know and I can take it back to discuss with the developers.

Thanks for your reply –
Glad that the ‘raw’ site isn’t doing anything bad, but there’s no way I’d even look at a blog about raw food (given that I’m a meat eater) let alone follow it, accidentally or not – I do not follow any blogs. Anyway, I’ve unsubscribed now. However, I looked at your link about ‘following’ and was surprised to find that one of my own blogs ‘julieinbali.wordpress.com’ says that I don’t receive any comments by mail – I always used to! I know I could turn it on again from that link, but I’d first like to know how come that facility was turned off?
Re stats: The new version completely disrupts my work flow. You are making me work so much harder to understand where things are, I don’t have the time for that, nor the patience or desire.
I just used a stop watch and it takes over 8 seconds to scroll from top to bottom – a waste of my time, of everyone’s time – the classic version is less than 3 seconds, are your developers proud of that change?
I’ve already mentioned that it now takes so much longer to look at anything I’m interested in because I have to scroll down so far – so why can’t you let people choose the order of things instead of presenting me with things that are of zero interest to me. Also can’t you just continue to support the classic version – please!
By the way, if you know that spam messages get told: ‘the topic was closed 45 years ago’ then wouldn’t it be worth giving some option where you have to type in the ‘characters shown in the box’ to prove that I’m human and not a virus.
Thank you.

I don’t see anything in your account log that would explain when the change to your email subscription to your own site. We did change any settings that would have affected this, but its possible that one of the account settings changes I see in your log may have tripped something to cause it.
Let me know if it gets turned off again and I can try to find similarities that explain why its happening.
The new version completely disrupts my work flow. You are making me work so much harder to understand where things are, I don’t have the time for that, nor the patience or desire.
I just want to clarify, the disruption to your workflow is that things changed in general. So you need to relearn where to find the stats you care about?
so why can’t you let people choose the order of things instead of presenting me with things that are of zero interest to me.
This is something that has come up a couple times, so I’ll add your ‘vote’ to the mix.
By the way, if you know that spam messages get told: ‘the topic was closed 45 years ago’ then wouldn’t it be worth giving some option where you have to type in the ‘characters shown in the box’ to prove that I’m human and not a virus.
Viruses aren’t the main concern of our spam filter. We’re constantly barraged by spam messages, sometimes from legitimate users who’s accounts have been compromised. But I’ll definitely keep this suggestion in mind whenever we’re able to update the forums software. :)

Hi
How am I to know if it turns off again?Yes, the disruption to my workflow is that you guys changed things in a major way and it even takes more than twice the time merely to look at it, let alone understand it.
Yes, I need to relearn where to find the stats I care about?
I am really not being funny when I say that you are probably incapable of understanding the frustration this causes – this is because you work in computers… that is what you DO, it’s your job – you like it, you get paid for it… and that is great. But we are not comparing apples with apples… (so to speak).
For people like me, normal, ordinary people, who barely keep up the basics of a blog, the familiar is SO IMPORTANT. I have almost zero trust with computers at the best of times (how can I possibly trust any machine that tells me the topic was closed 45 years ago, subscribes me to something I’ve no interest in, turns something off that used to be on and puts me in a stupid loop – granted that wasn’t on your site, but it happen 2 days ago anyway?) – and, as if to add insult to injury, you MOVE THINGS so that they take twice as long to look at – I truly believe that you cannot possibly understand the frustration.
– Sorry I know this is ranting, but… I’m frustrated. Please know this is not aimed at you personally.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any alerts for when a notification gets disabled.

Thanks for you confirmation! Its really helpful to know this so we can make changes to our process as we release new updates.

Everybody needs to vent sometimes. :) I totally won’t take it personally. I want to help you in any way that I can. I can’t change the stats page back to what it was before, but I can pass on your message to our developers. And I can help you find what you need in the new page.
