How can you hide the sidebar widgets in the Handmade theme?
-
Handmade is listed as a one-column theme in the search on themes.wordpress.com but I can’t figure out how to make it work that way. When I remove all of the sidebar widgets, it provides default ones (search, recent posts, and categories).
Is there a way to get rid of the default sidebar widgets and make it a one-column theme with footer?

Hi there,
You can use the full width page template in Handmade to create one-column pages on your blog. To do this, select the Full Width template in the Page Attributes module when creating or editing a page. If you have other questions about this, please let me know.
You may also want to take a look at the Handmade theme support section or get additional support directly from the theme creator in the Handmade support forum.

Thanks, that wasn’t quite the question I was asking: I want to experiment with removing the sidebar widgets throughout the site, not just on specific “page” posts.
I’ve reposted over in the Handmade support forum as you suggested:

Ah, I understand what you mean now. When you remove all the widgets from the sidebar, as you saw, you will be given a set of default widgets. These default widgets will appear as long as the sidebar widget area is empty. You can add a blank Text Widget if you don’t want anything to show up in the sidebar.
I hope this helps! :)
