How change sort order of wordpress themes

I’m looking at revising the theme of my WordPress site so am checking out how each looks. However returning to find a previously tried out theme is a pain as the themes appear only in random order. How can I sort these alphabetically?

  • Hi there,

Although there’s no option to sort them alphabetically, you can sort them by date added (Newest) if you view them through the classic dashboard. Here’s the link:

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. I’m happy to help.

Umm…not great since having looked at a particular theme there is no way of knowing when it was introduced so you still have to view all. Is there perhaps a way to search for a them by name (or partial name)? That would be more user friendly.

Incidentally, the link that you kindly provided, is only found through the WP Admin menu option. I have been using the more obvious ‘Personalize’ ‘Customise’ ‘Themes’ button as this is immediately visable from the first menu that I see when I go into my site.

I’d still like to see Themes sorted by name but I’ve found the sort field. Not clear that you could enter a theme name there – but results are often spurious. eg entering ‘foundat’ produces Avid, Oxford, Huesos and Radcliffe 2. Not terrible helpful. Sorry.

  • @yorkisspproject sorry it’s been less than helpful for you. Typically searching for the theme name will work.

If you don’t mind, I’ll also add your “vote” to a feature request that would display previously activated themes.

Thank you. On a closely related topic (do tell me if I need to raise a new post), when trying out a different theme how can you tell what theme you are actually looking at? Trying a few fonts with a client (who happens to be my wife), we wanted to note which theme we were looking at. Nowhere could we find this information. Ditto font information – it’s OK labelling a font as ‘Default Font’ but where does it tell me what it is? Vital information when I need to use a consistent font elsewhere.

    Hi yorkisspproject,

No need to start a new thread, you are welcome to ask more questions in the one you have already created :)

when trying out a different theme how can you tell what theme you are actually looking at?

Are you referring to the Try & Customise option accessible from our theme showcase? If so, I’ve tested this on one my own sites and you’re right, there isn’t anything to indicate which theme you are trying so I’ll mention this as a possible future improvement.

it’s OK labelling a font as ‘Default Font’ but where does it tell me what it is? Vital information when I need to use a consistent font elsewhere.

Default fonts vary depending on the theme that is activated — which is why the Customiser doesn’t list one specific font. However, Twenty Eleven uses Helvetica Neue, with Helvetica, Arial and sans-serif fonts as the fallback fonts — they will be used if someone’s computer doesn’t have Helvetica Neue installed.

If you need help finding this information for any other themes, I’ll be happy to help you find it.
