How come my Custom Search Engine appears as a link instead of a search box?

Hi there, I am trying to put a Google Custom Search Engine on a page of my website. Instead of showing up as the search box, it shows up as a link. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t want to use a plugin because I’m trying to do this for free. Please help.

Hi @meristep, we don’t currently have an embeddable google search option, and I’m guessing the code you’re using isn’t supported:
That said, have you considered using a built-in search? We have a few options:

https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/search-block/Or, this one is an advanced search with filters and what not. It costs a monthly fee depending on how many items you need to search.
