How come my old blog url comes up on Google and not my new one?
-
I changed my registry name and now it doesn’t appear on Google or Yahoo!, although the old name still comes up. And this is after I registered with both of them.
Blog url: http://edgarswamp.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is a ” registry name”? Do you mean a site URL starting with http:// ? If so then beware that if you change a blog address ie. the URL and do not purchase a site redirect then every existing link to the original content under the original URL is broken. When any of those links are clicked anywhere on the internet the person clicking them experiences a 404 (page not found) error message and does not content to the content. It takes about 3-4 months for the search engines like Goggle and Bing to re-index all the content under the new blog URLs.

edit: “and does not content to the content.” was meant to be “and does not connect to the content.”

Hello timethief, yes I meant URL and you’ve completely answered my question, thank you. I knew (gut feeling) I’d have some problem when I switched it but wasn’t sure what it would be. So I either make a purchase or wait 3-4 months….very effcient way of doing things! I guess I’ll start a new blog with a name similiar to what I wanted and take it from there. Again, many thanks!
