How come my website looks nothing like the live demo for the Collections Theme?
-
I love the app look of the collections theme. I love the large colorful blocks that help you quickly identify what type of content you want to look for – articles, quotes, video, audio, etc.
Problem #1 I can’t seem to get those to appear as my home page. I only have a list look…when you’re in the live demo and click archive…that’s the look my home page seems to have.
Problem #2 I like how the live demo has a home/about/contact in the upper right hand side of the page. Though I’ve created and about page and a second page called “share your story” neither appear in the upper right hand of the page.
Problem #3 Although I put a tagline in the theme customizer it does not appear on the website
Problem #4 I posted a link in the links section. And there is no green links box (problem#1) nor does it show in the archive view that currently IS my home page.
Problem #5 I like the author photo and blurb at the bottom of the blog. It seems similar to an about page but shorter. If I have an about page in the upper right of the sight can I have this photo and blurb in the lower left…as show in the live demo. if yes how do i get it.
I tried to get all my set up issues into one email so that I wouldn’t blow up support with a bunch of emails. I hope this is helpful? I read through the extra support page (http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/collections/support/) for the theme. Perhaps I don’t understand the lingo but I could not find the solutions to my issues there.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Karen,
Problem #1 I can’t seem to get those to appear as my home page. I only have a list look…when you’re in the live demo and click archive…that’s the look my home page seems to have.
First, you’ll want to go here and create a blank page (just call it ‘Home’ or whatever):
https://hergodstory.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=pageAnd from the Page Attributes module to the side, choose the Homepage Template and save:
https://cloudup.com/c0MKATAKIjDThen, go to Settings->Reading here and pick ‘Home’ for the front page in the static page option at the top:
https://hergodstory.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.phpYou can create another blank page called ‘Blog’ or whatever with the Default page template and pick that for your posts page if you like.
Problem #2 I like how the live demo has a home/about/contact in the upper right hand side of the page. Though I’ve created and about page and a second page called “share your story” neither appear in the upper right hand of the page.
For that, you need to set up a Custom Menu (it will show on your homepage once you’ve set that up):
Custom MenusI set one up with your pages here:
https://hergodstory.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.phpYou can edit it as you like, following those Custom Menu instructions. :)
Problem #3 Although I put a tagline in the theme customizer it does not appear on the website
I believe that will show on your homepage once you set it up.
Problem #4 I posted a link in the links section. And there is no green links box (problem#1) nor does it show in the archive view that currently IS my home page.
Those links are posts with the “Link” post format. You have three posts so far, one with the Image format, one with the Quote format, and one with the Standard format:
https://hergodstory.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpIf you add another one and pick Link as described here, it will show:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/Problem #5 I like the author photo and blurb at the bottom of the blog. It seems similar to an about page but shorter. If I have an about page in the upper right of the sight can I have this photo and blurb in the lower left…as show in the live demo. if yes how do i get it.
The Homepage Template has an About section at the bottom. See ‘Customizing the Homepage About section’ here:
