How come some of the free themes aren’t available on hosted wordpress servers
-
I am trying to move my blog to one of the hosts you recommend and have installed the WordPress but the theme I am using on WordPress.com – MistyLook isn’t available. Why is that? And how can I get it?
thanks

Because they are two separate kinds of software:

I believe Mistylook was designed specifically for WordPress.com.
What you can do is go to the Mistylook site’s designer’s site and ask them if an adapted version is available or if they know of one that looks like it. Or check WordPress.org forums.

Try here: http://wpthemes.info/misty-look/
Good luck with your move to ORG. The Support forum for ORG users is found at

Mistylook is available. It is here: http://wpthemes.info/misty-look/ .
Do note that the version for self-hosted blogs has been updated numerous times, so it is not going to be exactly like the one here, but it is very close.

Ask over at WordPress.ORG: http://wordpress.org/support/
They can probably suggest a similar theme, some of the WordPress.COM Themes are available (sorry don’t remember the link) – HOWEVER they are optimized for WordPress.COM sites so you might find some differences in how they run on self hosted sites.

There is a theme, and it is available direct from the author. It is just that it isn’t fully GPL, which is probably why my answer was blocked to begin with.

I had emailed raincoaster and asked her to point you in the right direction, but staff obviously wasn’t happy with my snarky reply and deleted it.
Do a search on the internet for “mistylook wordpress theme” without the quote marks, and the first result will be your answer. It isn’t exactly the same as the one here (there have been numerous upgrades) but it is quite close to the original.
Staff, why don’t you just go ahead and ban me from the forums? I can’t see any reason you would block posts from me given my general performance over the years giving good advice and solid answers to the posters here.
Actually, after tonight, I’ve imposed a self-ban, so do as you wish.
And yes, I’m pissed.

Yes, I deleted the post because it was snarky and not constructive.
I did so after noticing your caught responses in this thread and marking them as not-spam.
We know that the spam filter is a little over-aggressive on the forums and sometimes catches things it should not, and that it can be frustrating when it does so.

@markel, the thing is this is happening too much, even when all I post are links to the wordpress.COM support pages. Something is seriously broken (apparently only for me since I’ve seen no indication in many months that it is happening to anyone else).
Seriously thought, it doesn’t matter. I’ve vented and will now move on.

@thesacredpath-I also got caught at the same time as you.
There was a bout of invisibility about 2 months ago and another Happiness Engineer (naomic?) requested that we modlook any threads we get caught in. The “* is invisible” was my addition.
