how come there’s no tech support here?
-
I have a tech question I don’t want to put on a public form.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)
-
Do you have a site hosted here at WordPress.com with a Premium plan or higher? If so you have access to email and Livechat with staff (though probably not at weekends). If you have a free site here then this forum is where you ask your questions.

tm I don’t have anything but a domain name I bought linked to a blog page and I’ve been told I need wordpress DNS records to connect the blog site to my domain.
I’m not giving specifics out here. Seems very odd that unless I buy something I don’t know if I want yet that I can’t be given basic advice by a techie.

Where did you buy your domain? Here at WordPress.com or elsewhere? Where is your blog page? Here at WordPress.com or elsewhere? If it is elsewhere then you need to reach out to your host for advice. If your site is here then you need a paid plan to make things work.

I bought the domain via Google Domains on October 5. I am aware there is a 60 day transfer restriction still running. I have a blog holding page on wordpress.
I spoke to Google tech support and this is their response:
ask for the DNS records to connect your website to your domain. Once you have those records we can add it to your domains settings so that your domain xxxxxxx will appear as the url of your website
Wordpress, when I requested the DNS record number, opened a page asking me for £84 for some upgrade with no explanation of why I need one at this time. Once my domain is linked to the wordpress holding page I might well change what I want but at the moment I’ve no idea.
Do I have to pay to get my DNS records??

Yes you need to upgrade your free site to a paid plan (the cheaper Personal plan would do) to connect your Google domain to the WordPress.com site.
If you wanted to build a site here at WordPress.com it would have been easier 9and cheaper) to have registered your domain here too. It would have been included free for the first year with an annual Personal plan. -
Even with the Personal plan, once you pass the requisite 60 day domain transfer ban, you can if you wish transfer your domain here and domain registration will automatically be extended for a year on top of however long you registered your domain for with Google. Or you can continue to keep it with Google Domains and connect it via domain connection.
This guide will give you more information: https://wordpress.com/support/domain-connection-vs-domain-transfer/
