How could changes have happened when I can't access the code?!
-
Hi,
Today a lot of elements in my blog which I do not have access to seem to have changed: margins lost, columns disappeared and the whole background of my page colours changed.
These are things I have no control over since I have no access to the codes that regulate these things.
I did recently set up a self hosting account and installed WP and played around with the codes just to learn. Is it possible changes I made there have been somehow implemented here??
I don’t see how that could happen!
Do I need to reinstall the theme on my self hosting account to bring it back to normal here on WP.com?
Please help!! My readers will be seeing a catastrophe!
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
To clarify a bit, your WordPress.com and WordPress.org blogs are entirely separate entities. Any edits or changes you make on one blog will not affect the other.
On your WordPress.com blog, we have an Appearance section where you’re given full control on how your site appears with little coding involved. In Appearance -> Theme Options, you can set your blog’s color scheme, font color and layout.
On the other hand, your background color can be customized in Appearance -> Background Color.
Did you by any chance played with these options at some point in time? Or do you feel that someone else may have accessed your blog without your permission?
Please let me know so I can guide you accordingly. As a safety precaution, I would recommend changing your account password.
Out of curiosity, can you share the URL of your self-hosted site?
Looking forward to your reply!

Hi Druesome,
Thanks for responding.
The changes that occurred are not the sort of things I have access to – they look like CSS changes which I don’t have access to. Things like the colour of the space where I input text, the margins between the text and widget area, the sidebar has dropped right off the page – things like that which I can’t change myself.
As for my self hosted site I’m still playing around with it to experiment and learn a bit about coding. Support at Bluehost suggested I set up a temporary domain and I’m fiddling around with that. I don’t think it’s on the internet if you know what I mean.
IF someone accessed my account without my permission would they be able to alter CSS codes when I myself don’t have access to them?
If you take a look at http://tipsinarabic.com and scroll down you’ll see how posts change. The widgets have dropped right to the bottom. Not the kind of changes I – or presumably a hacker – could do.
Many thanks.

FYI the folder in Bluehost I’ve been experimenting with is http://69.195.124.231/~stewasa9/
I just googled it at it “did not match any documents”.If I may add: I’m quite new at this but In the last week I (proudly!) managed to set up with bluehost, download the twentyeleven theme, upload it, create a “child” theme and play around with codes.
The sort of changes on my blog ‘here’ look a bit like the changes I might have experimented (random changes of margins and things) with just to see changes happens.
That’s why I’m suspecting a crossover from ‘there’ to ‘here’.

Hi Druesome,
I expect you’re away for the weekend but I’ll update:
The changes happening are in the templates where I have no control.
Today, as I was adding links from one article to some others, the same sort of problem occurred: the whole page became the colour of the background.
The problem MAY be related to linking which I started doing a few days ago and that’s when these problems started.
You can see it here:

Hi there!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was able to see the problem in two of your posts wherein some links (or anchor tags) weren’t correctly closed, causing some elements of your blog layout to go off-course. I went ahead and fixed the links, and your layout is displaying normally now. Can you kindly check if everything looks good?
Thank you!

Hi Druesome,
Thanks for your help mate.
I dread to take up more of your time but there remains a quirk:
This article appears fine when I open it from the menu but on the front page (since it’s still recent therefore still on the front) it’s all in bold. I can’t find a problem in the code on the page.
http://tipsinarabic.com/category/%d9%85%d8%a7-%d9%87%d9%88-%d9%85%d9%81%d8%b9%d9%88%d9%84-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%83%d9%88%d9%84%d8%b3%d8%aa%d8%b1%d9%88%d9%84-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%b9%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%8a/Also, if I may ask: Did this problem occur because of something I did, or did not do properly? Should I take more care with some aspect of linking to avoid a repeat of this problem?
Again many thanks for your help. This is a HUGE relief.

Hello Stewart,
This post —
appears just fine after testing in several browsers. Can you kindly empty your browser’s cache and see if that clears up the problem?
Also, if I may ask: Did this problem occur because of something I did, or did not do properly? Should I take more care with some aspect of linking to avoid a repeat of this problem?
It is common for users to overlook quirks in their code. :) In the future, just make sure that your tags are properly structured and you should be okay.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks!
