How Could Persons Subscribe to My RSS Feed?
-
Thesacredpath, your help was exactly what I needed! I kept trying to use the instructions from the FAQ and it kept not working. After comparing your instructions with the FAQ I realized the FAQ seemed to be leaving out some steps — maybe I just wasn’t getting it! Thanks again! Enjoy the islands!

Hi, everyone! I’m also trying to figure out how to install an RSS widget so that people can subscribe to my blog, .
I tried putting in the code for the text widget, but it didn’t seem to work. No orange button appeared, and nothing for readers to click on.
I think I may need to make a “Subscribe” page, but I’m not sure how to do that.
Thanks in advance for your help – I appreciate it!

Why not just use the RSS widget, which is in your available widgets? Put your own feed in it.

I tried adding the RSS widget, but couldn’t see anything when I went to my site.
I don’t know how to put my own feed in it – would you mind explaining it to me?

Add the widget, then click on it to configure it. It’ll open up and have a space for the feed itself, in your case http://localizing.wordpress.com/feed and options about how many posts you want to show in the feed, etc. You have to configure it before it will show up.

Hello all,
I was tackling this same question today, and I just wanted to share an alternate solution. It may seem slightly more daunting, but it gives some more flexibility too.
Instead of linking directly to the XML RSS feed, I used Feedburner, which is a web feed management provider (free, owned by Google). Feedburner takes your basic feed and converts it into their own format, while providing you with many new options.
http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/about
It’s very easy to set up, and it offers a lot more flexibility in how your feed is displayed to people; for example, you can automatically add links to social bookmarking sites like delicious, digg, etc. into your feed to help people share your content.
The other option that really attracted me was that you can provide your readers with the ability to subscribe via e-mail. Instead of viewing your posts as a feed, your readers will have your posts delivered to their inbox in html. I think this is a useful alternative as many people don’t use RSS very much.
Once you ‘burn’ your feed, the site will generate the html code for you automatically, which you can copy and paste into a text widget as described helpfully above. Then you can tweak as desired.
The end result gave me what I was looking for:
-
The bookmarks option is available on WP.com feeds (has been for at least a couple of months) but the email thing and improved stats are big feedburner advantages.

Hey thesacredpath,
Like many others I got really frustrated after following the step by step instructions on how to put in the RSS Feed into my website. After I read your instructions it finally worked on getting on my website, HOWEVER, i got the following statement under the RSS feed icon on my website:
An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later.
This is the code that I typed in from your post earlier:

What am I doing wrong? I am way beyond my patience level. Need help. Thx

nevermind, I went the other route and took Raincoaster’s instructions, and it WORKS! Yeah, Whoooo hooooo, damn I need a beer after that. Scratch that a nice shot or two of tequila.
For those that are in despair, I did the following:
http://yourblogname.wordpress.com/feed and presto it worked. Make sure though pending on what theme you may have set up for your blogsite that you unclick the 3 categories so that you have a crisp sidebar. Hope that makes sense. you can check my blog out to see what I mean visually.

I have added RSS feed widget but cant see on my blog http://pharmshashank.wordpress.com. I want my reader to be aware about my recent post. Kindly help me out.
-
Did you put your feed in the RSS widget and configure it? You have to put it in the sidebar, open it, click your choices, save in the widget, and Save Updates at the bottom of the page again.

Afternoon,
I have a ‘feed on’ link which allows users to get feeds to both my posts and comments…These links do not seem to be active. Any ideas how to get these working? My blog is http://seedcorncapital.wordpress.com
thanks,

Sorry for barging into this thread, but I am getting confused about feeds. I thought everyone got the little feed icon in the browser’s address field (when required)?? No?
I’m new to blogging and now I’m thinking that there is something inmportant that I’m missing… Are these feeds that you’re looking for in this thread different from the “browser feed” thingy I get in Mozilla and IE (and Safari as well I think) and if so, in what way? Or do some themes disable feeds…? Or is it a more complex feed?
I thought it was simple, but now I’m not so sure… -
Couldnt follow raincoaster…I am knew to all this ..can u please explain me in details,
thanks -
thesacrepath – Thanks for READING the questions everyone was asking. And thanks for the example you provided way back on page one of this thread. It cleared up EVERYTHING.
By the way everyone, if you only want the small RSS icon on your page, you will need to replace part of the code thesacredpath displayed in his example way up on this thread. Near the end of the code where it indicates a64.png, replace that with b14.png. As an example:
Replace <img style=”border:0;” src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/a64.png” alt=”” /> Posts
With <img style=”border:0;” src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b14.png” alt=”” /> Posts
HINT: All of the codes for the various sizes and colors of the RSS logo are displayed on the WordPress help page that thesacredpath provided in his earlier post. Go to http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/

Hi I have been able to load the text widget and add the code as described but it appears only as a box with a red cross in it. grantmethreewishes.wordpress.com Any help please would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

It’s bad enough to struggle with what should be just a simple task — allowing someone to get feeds from your blog. Then I read all these comments about how easy and simple it is. It’s just not. Please, please, all I want to do is let people get an e-mail update when my blog is updated. These functions, FeedBlitz, Feedburner, the wordpress widget, are just not working.
