How customizable are these blogs, REALLY?

I need to know just how customizable these blogs are. I have an existing website that I want to add a blog to, but I want the blog to mirror the existing site as much as possible. I don’t just want to be able to change the header image, background and colors, I need to be able to customize all parts of the design.

I’m a web designer, so I know my way around HTML, CSS and all that. Would a blog from here be a good choice, or one from the wordpress.ORG site?

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

Customization here is limited to the paid CSS upgrade and to the themes shown here under appearance themes. The sandbox-10 theme is virtually wide open and it is amazing what people have done with it, but there is no editing of the underlying PHP script files (no HTML here).

If you already have a website hosted somewhere, it might be best for you to install the wordpress software from http://wordpress.ORG at your host. In that way, you will have not only the ability to change the CSS (free) but would also have to ability to modify the underlying theme PHP script files if necessary. DO be careful with modifying the PHP script files. It is quite easy to open security holes, and you do not want that.

thanks for the reply, i may try this one and see if it works, because ive tried using wordpress.ORG and ive ran into some server problems. it would be nice to be able to offer clients a fully customizable blog for extremely cheap with this software. So hopefully I can modify these ones with the css upgrade, enough for a user to not feel like they left the original webpage.
