How did I get back to simply commenting

I made the mistake of clicking ‘notify me of new comments.’ Apparently that created an account and now I can no longer comment. It takes me to a login loop.
Really why does this program make it so hard?

Hi there @believerkawaiiceefde43b1, so it’s possible that you weren’t logged in with your regular WordPress.com account when you clicked that box? And I understand that this accidentally created a new WordPress.com account, yes?

If you don’t want the new account, you can delete it by following this guide. https://wordpress.com/support/close-account/ Do note that the email address used on that account can’t be used again to create a new WordPress.com account until 30 days have passed. In general, your email address is your unique identifier on this platform.

Once you’ve done that, I’d suggest you delete your browser’s cache and cookies to remove anything that might be causing an issue. Important note: deleting your browser cache and cookies will log you out of every website you might be logged into. https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#clear-your-browser-cache

Then next time you leave a comment or want to subscribe to comments on a different WordPress.com site, be logged in already with your original account.

I hope that helps, but if you run into any issues with this, please post back here.
