how difficult would it be to move my current WordPress site to wordpress.com?
-
My current host plan is expiring in a few days and am considering moving to the starter wordpress.com host plan. I see it offers 6GB of web space, how much bandwidth? I post my nature photos but resized, so far I’m using 1.6GB of my web space. I’d be a little nervous about running out at 6GB but it should take me a while to get there right?
If I decide to try WordPress hosting, is there an easy way to transfer my current site? Thank you

Hi there,
Moving content across is pretty simple. On your self-hosted site, go to WP-Admin ->Tools ->Export, and export your content.
Then on a free WordPress.com site go to My Site ->Settings ->Import and upload the export file. Note that your self-hosted site should stay online and publicly accessible at its domain until the import process completes. Images can still be transferring over even after you’ve received the notification that the import is complete – that only refers to the posts and page themselves.
Images don’t always make it across from self-hosted sites, but should that happen don’t change anything on either site, and let us know so we can take a look. In most cases we can fix it up manually.
As for the storage space, 6GB is actually a lot if you’re smart about it. Resize your images to no bigger than 1500px wide and run them through an optimization tool like JPEGMini or ImageOptim before uploading them to your media library, and you’d be surprised at how long your storage lasts. I know as a photographer you might think higher resolution is better, and it is for editing and printing, but for websites anything bigger than the maximum size your theme or a standard computer screen can display is just a waste of space and slows down your site.
Bandwidth on WordPress.com sites is unlimited, regardless of plan.

Thank you so much for this, greatly appreciated. Do wordpress.com hosting plans offer more than one domain on either plan?
-
Do you mean more than one domain pointing to a single site? Or more than one domain with each pointing to a separate site?
