It definitely cannot be done. You can use Sitemeter or Statcounter, among others, but be sure to use the HTML code, not the javascript versions of their counters.

This seems like an important issue… lots of people would like to use google analytics on their blog. It appears our options to use Google Analytics all require us to first opt out of wordpress.com. Over the years I have moved almost everything I’ve got to stand alone wordpress.org type blogs and blogger. In terms of functionality nothing comes close to wordpress.org, but if you don’t want to host yourself the next best choice is probably going to remain blogger for most people.

It would be nice to be able to have access to more of the functionality that google analytics offers in terms of statistics. Particularly if you are targeting a certain area of the country or want to understand tag relevance etc.

Recently someone from staff said that they are not using GA for our blogs. The stats program here is a “home-grown” thing as I remember.

Let staff know by sending in a request to support. Although they peruse the forums, there is no guarantee they will see or log your request. If you contact support, they will log the request for sure.
