How do I access my blog when I keep receiving "Invalid Key: Back" message?

  • Unknown's avatar

I haven’t found an answer to this on the forums because I haven’t changed anything with my account. More often than not I come up with a blank white screen with “Invalid Key: Back” in the upper left corner when trying to access my blog. This began happening all of a sudden maybe a few weeks ago. I either keep trying till I get through or get to the blog through wordpress.com rather than directly. Thoughts?
    Blog url: http://emergingcommunities.wordpress.com/

    Hi there,

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re encountering this problem. When you say that you log in through WordPress.com rather than directly, can you let me know how you usually log in?

Additionally, have you made any changes to your computer that may have prompted this issue? Can you also let me know what browser and operating system you’re using?

I usually access my blog through a link on my bookmark bar in Google Crome, but even if I enter the url directly in either Chrome or Explorer, I get the same result. I am already signed in, and so if I go to wordpress.com, I can access my dashboard, and from there the whole blog. I am using Windows 7. Anything I left out?

Have you ever encountered this error message on any other sites?

Are you receiving the same “Invalid Key: Back” in both Explorer and Chrome? Can you let me know what version of each of these browser’s you’re using?

Lastly, when does the blank why screen typically come up? For example, are you encountering it as soon as you go to WordPress.com, only after you log in, or just when you click on a certain page?

    Thank you for your cooperation!

    No, no other sites.
Yes, in both Chrome and Explorer (latest versions, as far as I know).
The screen comes up probably about 90% of the time whenever I try to load my url, “www.emerging-communities.com.” Nothing else ever precedes this screen; I go directly to it. It has never come up when I go to WordPress.com instead.

Can you see if you come across the same problem in Firefox?

Additionally, do you have any antivirus software that may be interfering with your connection to WordPress.com? Can you confirm that you have cookies enabled in your browser(s)?

    Cookies enabled.
I am already running two browsers and would hate to need a third just to access my blog.
Like I said earlier, I have no problem accessing WordPress.com, and once there I have no problem accessing my dashboard, and only THEN can I reliably access the blog itself. But most of the time I can’t access my blog directly.
I run AVG Free, always have with no problem. I doubt this would be interfering.
Surely I cannot be the only person who has had this problem? It’s ONLY with my blog and no other website, not even WordPress.com with my name and password remembered.

    Thanks for your detailed response.

Can you try sending us a screenshot of the Invalid Key message?

If you would like to contact us privately, sending us the bookmarked URL that you use to sign in would be helpful.

I have a screen shot but not sure how to attach it. If I send it privately through Support by starting another (private) thread, should I earmark it somehow so that you’ll be the one to receive it?

Great question! Yes, please include “Attention: Erica V.” in the subject line. I’ll keep an eye out for your support request.

If you’ve already sent it, just let me know and I’ll search for it ASAP :)

    Thanks!
