Hi there,
It may be possible if you edit CSS but you will need the Custom Design upgrade. With the upgrade you can apply custom fonts/colors in addition to editing CSS.
Before purchasing the upgrade, can you let me know what you are looking to put in the banner? Certain kinds advertisements may not be allowed.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Hi, thanks for responding.
I would like to do a banner for ads. I am not sure what kind yet, but they would be G rated and not spamish.
I am not able at this time to upgrade.
There is no way to do it with the setup I have?

No I’m sorry this would not be possible with your current setup. If you would like to add ads, you would have to move to WordPress.org and get your own hosting. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.
