How do I add a button in my side bar (Digg 3 Theme)?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have only been able to add a text link. I would like to add an actual image/button. If you have a moment, on my current blog the link for “lilaguide” actually has an image/button. How do I replace the text with that button?
    Thank you in advance!!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The site linked to your name is not a WordPress.com blog, and we won’t be able to help you with that.

    my blog is at http://www.cartstopper.wordpress.com – I do not understand what you are referring to?

    http://www.mylilmonkeys.com/

    THAT is the site linked to on your name. It isn’t relevant to this forum, and thus my response. Please either change the link on your name or give the URL of your WP.com blog every time you ask a question.

    Using the Links widget, you can include an image: Dashboard-> Links-> Advanced. The image must already be uploaded somewhere in order for this to work.

    My apologies…I will correct that.
    On the Liliguide site (http://www.lilaguide.com/reviews/VendorBadges.aspx?lid=584888), I have tried putting the badge address into the image address area. It now shows up as an incomplete image with an “X” in a box.

    Then it is because they are not hosting the image and allowing hotlinking. You can try copying the image to your hard drive then uploading it, and putting in the URL of your uploaded image.

    @cartstopper: There is or was something wrong with the site. Sometimes the links to it worked, sometimes they redirected in a way that created a loop.

    But have you pasted the correct URL? (At the moment the badge doesn’t work in your blog while it does in mine.) The complete code as given in the http you gave is meant for a text widget, not for the link options. This is what you must have in the link image address area:

    Panaghiotisadam – thank you so much!! You were very kind in answering my question. I appreciate your professionalism ;)

    You’re welcome (and I’m not a professional here, just a volunteer).

    But you’ve got a little problem: the image is too wide for the sidebar of the theme you’re using. I suggest you remove the link and paste the complete code you get from the site in a text widget instead, so that the image can be resized. The ending of the code is this:
    alt="Cart-Stopper"></a>
    Change it to this:
    alt="Cart-Stopper" width="150" /></a>

    Oh my god, I did it!! Thank you! :) How or where did you learn all this html writing? Is there some type of guide you can suggest? I am totally new at this. I have a 125 bit button my web designer made for me and I can’t even use it as I don’t understand the whole ‘button hosting’ thing (the html stuff that liliguide has – that is kind of what I am looking for on my sidebar for my button with a caption stating, “Grab my button”.) If someone gave me a button/graphic, how do I put it on my sidebar as a link?

    As for your other question, perhaps you’ll find it encouraging if I tell you that when I started blogging I viewed html as an incomprehensible labyrinth. The only thing I knew was how to write a link, because that was immediately needed. Little by little I learned a bit more (as I occasionally needed to produce some results that weren’t possible otherwise). I started understanding some things by examining the html version of what I did in the visual editor, then I started visiting the forum and learning from the suggestions of more experienced members, then searching html sites for solutions (yes, there are many of them – you can google for html codes, html tutorials, html tips), and of course fumbling a lot and experimenting a lot. I had opened a test blog so as not to mess the regular one when trying something new. (Now I also use that blog to test things in order to help others here.)

    Very cool – I am on my way to understanding it all. Thank you for all of your assistance. I will try to work on the button question/answer this weekend.
    Thanks again!
