How do I add a client’s site to my account, built by a third-party?
-
The original webmaster is unable to finish my new client’s site. It is stored on her server, and I downloaded the images and xml file from her Dropbox account. She furnished a code to ‘unlock’ the site, but nowhere to go to do the unlocking. Appending /wp-admin to the URL brings up user and pass I don’t have. How else would I unlock the site?

Hi there, first of all it sounds like the site isn’t hosted here.
Given that, are you able to reset the password at /wp-admin ?
If that isn’t working, the host may be able to help you make backups and use one of these recovery options:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/As long as you can log into the hosting account, you should be able to regain access. If you need more help, head to to the forums for self-hosted sites at https://wordpress.org/support

Hi Supernovia,
The host is an individual with a private server. She does not grant access to it, as she has several clients on it. Therefore, I cannot log into the hosting account. She said she “unlocked” it and gave me an authorization code, but no further instructions, URL, nothing.

Hello there,
You would need to reach out to the webmaster for assistance with issue.
As this is not associated with WordPress.com, out support is limited.
I hope this helps.

Hi aleone89,
I have reached out. Her last reply was that she “unlocked” the domain, not the website. So I will have to follow up with her. Thanks for the reply.
