  How do I get a get a slide to come up giving a free offer to a blog visitor?

  If I understand what you’re looking to do, the exact feature isn’t available at WordPress.com. But, just to be sure, could you point me to an example on another site?

  The best alternative would be to use a widget in your sidebar. You could customize the Follow Blog Widget text for example if you’re looking to encourage subscribers:

  Alternatively, you could setup a Text Widget:
