How do I add a Google share button?

How do I add a “share button for Google+” to post my blog posts to my Google+ stream?

  • You can add that via Settings -> Sharing in your blog’s Dashboard.

I have all the available “share” buttons listed on my blog posts – does the “+1 button” actually share the blog post to Google+ or do I have to set something up first? Thanks, Mark

The +1 button will add the post to your +1’s on your Google Plus account.

I’m sorry for not being a techie, but I’m clueless on this process. I’ve tried to make a Google+ button but I wasn’t sure it worked correctly and removed it. The +1 button is now activated, but when I pushed it nothing happened in my Google+ stream – no post appeared in my stream and no window opened to add a comment like on twitter. Can a Happiness Engineer look at my dashboard and sort this all out and tell me what has to happen to automatically have new blog posts post to Google+? Twitter and LinkedIn both work fine, but I’m lost on the Google+ process. I don’t know why this isn’t easier…maybe I’m missing something. Where does my gmail address come into all of this? Thanks, Mark

  • It’s working as normal, but Google has a very odd way of handling these things. Basically, you won’t see the post, but those who follow you will.

It’s not the same as Sharing on Google +. In fact, it’s rather similar to the difference between Share vs. Like on Facebook, with Google’s +1 being similar to Facebook’s Like.

Thanks for your help, Mac! OK, I now understand that I won’t see anything I share with a +1 button, and that’s why I see what others have +1’d who I follow. As a technique I prefer the way that Twitter does it with a tweet box opening on the original site and dropping it into my “stream”, which I guess is now Google’s “+Mark” equivalent, which they just converted to today.

Google must automatically “know” who I am on WordPress because of my blog’s link I placed on it. Now I’m beginning to understand that even though I was clueless, the process is transparent and I’m not supposed to ‘see’ anything…what a concept. I guess I’m the “lay test-dummy” in this train crash! :) Thanks so much for your help, Mac! Cheers! Mark

Mac, just one more question: When I post my WordPress blog, it automatically posts to Twitter…will it now automatically +1 with each new blog post…or do I have to do it manually to share it with my Google+ community? I’ve made great strides in Google+ in the past few days and love the 3 legged stool of WordPress, Twitter and Google+!! :) Cheers, Mark

  • No, Google does not allow auto-posting to Google+. They’re pretty opposed to the idea, it’s one of the things that they want to define their separation from Facebook on, so I doubt they’ll ever allow it.

Thanks, Mac. I can understand Google+’s reasoning, so I +1’d my most recent post just now. I’ve been using Google+ more and more and really like their platform the more I use it. I can see the advantages of integrating platforms in this wired-world, but I can understand their need a little breathing space to stand on their own as something unique. You’ve helped me greatly with your patient responses! :) Cheers, Mark
