how do I add a meta tag to the head section of my homepage

I used the wordpress.org forum to find an answer to my question – I am trying to add a meta tag to the <head> section of my homepage between the <head> and <body> tag and none of the feedback is helping.

Hi there,
WordPress.com sites are a bit different from self-hosted WordPress sites, so the advice you see in the WordPress.org forums may not apply here at WordPress.com. In this case, it isn’t possible to modify the <head> section of your site here at WordPress.com.
Can you give more details about what you need that meta tag for? I can help you find out if there’s a different way to do it here at WordPress.com. For example, if you’re trying to add Google Webmaster Tools, you can do that without the meta tag: Webmaster Tools

Oh, thank you for that feedback. After working on it for a couple hours, I started to think it might not be me. I am just trying to offer Google Apps for Business verification of my domain name so they can set up my domain name email address. Pasting their meta tag to my header was their suggestion. It sounds like I may just need to call their tech support 800# to set this up.

Thanks for explaining! There are a couple other options you can use to verify your domain for Google Apps:

The first method on that page, to add a TXT record or CNAME record to your domain’s DNS settings, will work here at WordPress.com. This page describes how to add custom DNS records (like TXT or CNAME records) here: Custom DNS
If you’d like a hand with that, please let me know. :)

I just got the email for Google that they were able to confirm my domain! Thanks so much. I feel so tech-savvy now. Take care. Tonia
