How do I add a pre-existing blog, SFSignal, to my pre-existing Gravatar?
-
I see the panel that lets me add one of my own blogs to Gravatar, but not how to add one that does not belong to me.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
Could you tell me to which blog you’re trying to make your Gravatar connection?
Gravatars are meant to add your image/profile and/or hovercard to sites that you own. Please explain your goal in adding your Gravatar to a site that isn’t yours, and perhaps I can help further.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

I have been offered the opportunity to do occasional writing for SFSignal. I have been given access to build a profile for myself on the SFSignal site, and that is mostly done, but I don’t know how to join that with my existing Gravatar account so I can use my Gravatar from all three sites.

Paula,
I took a look at SFSignal and it doesn’t appear to be a WordPress.com site.
The website must be on a platform that uses Gravatar, first and foremost. You might need to ask that site’s administrator if that is the case.
What happens when you click Add Website (the gray box with a plus sign, as seen in the linked image below?

Are you allowed to add that website? Also, are you using the same email address as a user on that site (where you have been made a user), as you do in your Gravatar account? Gravatar will “find” you and add your image/profile by your unique email address.
Let me know about the issues above and how I might help further. Thanks!

Thatrobyn,
Thank you!
Your suggestion that SFSignal might not be a wordpress site was the clue I needed. I had used the wordpress button rather than the general button to add the new site. Now that part is taken care of.
Now two other issues.
1) My profile photo is still not showing up on my sfsignal profile page.
2) My photo gallery was not showing previously on my profile screen, and now it’s there. How do I hide it again?Thank you.

Note: in problem 2) above it should read: My photo gallery was not showing previously on my GRAVATAR profile screen …
Thanks,

Actually, the bio may not be being shared either. I think I pasted it in both profiles, Gravatar and SFSignal.

Paula,
Can you confirm that the email you’re using at Gravatar is the same you’re using at SFSignal ? If not, you need to add your SFSignal login email address here:
https://en.gravatar.com/emailsYour gallery appeared here (https://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit/#your-images) because you added another copy of your photo. I got rid of it for you. Now, you do still have your chosen Gravatar image, but not the duplicate images appearing in a gallery.
Actually, the bio may not be being shared either. I think I pasted it in both profiles, Gravatar and SFSignal.
I cannot see what you’re seeing. Can you give me any links that might help me see what you’re viewing PLUS a screenshot of what you’re viewing on your screen?
You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library here at WordPress.com, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.
The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:
Just let me know when there’s something I should look at.
Thanks again!

The email is the same for Gravatar and SFSignal. Just reconfirmed
I have realized that I misread the instructions for setting up my SFSignal account regarding Gravatar. Thought they said I’d see the Gravatar bio and photo in my SFSignal profile when they meant I’d see it in the footers of my posts, when I write some.
One new odd thing: now my SFSignal site appears properly in my Gravatar profile setup, but when I click on “view profile” the SFSignal shows up as “404.” Does that mean that SFSignal is not properly linked? When I click on the 404, it does take me to SFSignal, but I have no way of assuring that SFSignal can access my Gravatar. I have uploaded a screen shot of my Gravatar display. The url is http://en.gravatar.com/paulasjordan
Thank you again,

You are correct, it appears that you used the incorrect link to make this connection.
You have set up your personal page as your SFSignal website on your Gravatar profile. You must use the URL http://www.SFSignal.com, rather than my.SFSignal.com.
Go ahead and remove the old link, and add the new one. Let me know how that works out for you!
Looking forward to hearing from you! Cheers :)

thatrobyn,
That looks a whole lot better!
Can I safely assume that this will work properly from the other way too? That my photo and bio will be successfully picked up when I submit a post to SFSignal?
If so I’ll go ahead and mark this closed.
Thank you so much for all your help and patience.

Hi there, Paula!
Can I safely assume that this will work properly from the other way too? That my photo and bio will be successfully picked up when I submit a post to SFSignal?
Indeed! Now, as long as SFSignal is setup to display Gravatars (you can check with them), it should indeed appear when your post is published.
Let me know how it works out :)
Best of luck as contributor on the site!

Many, many thanks, thatrobyn.
I will be submitting a post in the next few days. No idea when it will appear. I will definitely let you know!

Hi, Robyn.
My post is up on SFSignal! Yay! Go to SFSignal.com home page and scroll down, or go directly to http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2015/05/characters-seize-reins/
Only one problem. My Gravatar information did not appear at the bottom of the post as we expected. Any ideas? I have also, just now, asked the editor if I might have miss-set something in my profile there.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Hey Paula,
It seems as if you might not be setup like some other authors on the site. Could you ask the site’s administrator if they’re set up in the same manner as the author of this post:
http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2015/05/giveaway-django-wexler/#comment-148309Since the site isn’t hosted at WordPress.com, I can’t compare your accounts/setup.
Thanks! -
Hi, Robyn,
Sorry I’ve been silent. Been busy, and now I’ll be away for a month, but I’ll proceed with this when I get back.
