You can add the Search Block to the content of any post or page in the editor, or you can add it to your site’s footer under Appearance ->Customize ->Widgets:

I have one more question, if it’s not too much trouble… On my old site, the whole of each post was not included in the scroll down page from which posts are selected by readers ~ only the first few lines or blurb, so that the selections scrolled by quickly and conveniently. Is there a way to get the new site to display that way too?

Your theme does not have an option to limit the posts to excerpts only, but there are two ways you can still have those on your homepage.
1. You can manually add More Block to each post:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/more-block/.
This way, you control where exactly you would like the preview to end.
2. You can create a custom blog page using Blog Posts Block and have even more control over what you display:
